Following the international trend, Chile has introduced SIPs as a national education policy since 2014. This traditional approach to school improvement may not create the sense of urgency needed for schools that need to improve more quickly. An alternative and complementary approach to faster improvement in the face of constant environmental change is short-cycle planning. Using the short-cycle planning approach, this study presents the experiences of 20 schools that designed and implemented one short-cycle plan in 2023-2024. This qualitative study aims to understand how do school leaders and school district leaders describe their changes in mindset when using short-cycle improvement plans in comparison to year-long planning.
