Abstract

This study explores how graduate education experiences of Asians influence their career pathways. Results of this study suggest that Asian STEM students’ career trajectories are influenced by their graduate experience. Increasing skills and knowledge, and being marketable are important factors motivating Asian participants in this study to pursue a PhD. Although Asians are often the majority in STEM, Asian students who are women and first-generation students have experiences and challenges identical to underrepresented students in STEM.
