Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) has shown unique advantages in enhancing inquiry-based learning in K-12 classrooms. However, challenges such as fixed roles and topic deviation during collaboration have surfaced, necessitating the implementation of collaboration scripts to improve collaborative experience. This study designed and applied collaboration scripts in AR-based collaborative inquiry settings, aiming to explore the effects of scripts and how these scripts influence students’ behaviors and interactions in AR environments. 78 seventh-grade students were involved in this study. Key findings revealed that collaborative scripts significantly promote knowledge acquisition, reduce cognitive load, and mediate the collaborative inquiry process. The study highlights the importance of well-structured roles and clear guidelines in enhancing AR collaborative experience and addresses educational inequalities by providing equitable participation opportunities.
