Tensions and Resonances as Social Justice Scholars: Creative Expressions of Student Development

Sat, April 26, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

We explored mentorship relationships to understand the complexity of developing and maintaining meaningful connections and support systems in higher education. Employing creative methods in educational and mentorship spaces for individual and collective expressions of truth upends traditional notions of doing research and opens up possibilities for dismantling established higher education systems that are grounded in patriarchal systems of power, hierarchy, and marginalization. Discussion and implications focused on justice-centered orientation, imposter syndrome and apprehensions.
