Abstract

This paper summarizes and compares the academic performance of traditional students with students who matriculated into a medical college (MC) via early assurance admission programs. Almost all (i.e., 99%; N = 204) of the early assurance students are matched to a traditional student using a greedy matching algorithm. The matching is replicated 1,000 times and the datasets have a mean absolute distance of 0.23 between the matches. The findings suggest that after controlling for overall pre-clerkship performance, there are no statistically significant differences among the admission types with regards to overall clerkship performance or overall post-clerkship performance, and USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK performance.
