Creating Space for Aesthetic Experiences in K–12 Maker Classrooms

Thu, April 24, 1:45 to 3:15pm MDT (1:45 to 3:15pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This preliminary study explores aesthetic experiences in maker education within three maker classes in a Canadian elementary school. Drawing on Clapp's (2017) maker aesthetic criteria and incorporating posthumanist and new materialist perspectives, we explore the dynamic relationships between students and materials and the aesthetic experiences that emerge through their interactions. This research provides insights into designing educational environments that consider aesthetic dimensions, laying the foundation for future studies on the role of aesthetics in maker education.
