Exploring Human and AI Co-Creation Behavior Patterns in Design Education (Poster 16)

Thu, April 24, 1:45 to 3:15pm MDT (1:45 to 3:15pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

Understanding human and AI co-creation behavior patterns can help instructors and researchers better integrate generative AI (GAI) into design education. This study uses a GAI tool we developed to examine the integration of AI into a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) class during a one-week interior and fashion conceptual design phase. Students initially explored the tool independently and then participated in a GAI workshop. By analyzing their log data, we identified three behaviors: generation, variation based on non-selection, and variation based on selection. Lag sequential analysis of these behavioral patterns before and after the workshop revealed two findings: no significant connection between the three types of behaviors, and variation based on non-selection was enhanced after the workshop.
