Abstract

The Kentucky Student Voice Team is a youth organization in the United States that aims to amplify student voice and ensure that students have authentic input into their education. With the aim of contributing to discussions on how to deepen collaborative, youth participatory action research, this paper tells the story of KSVT a. In particular, understanding and making visible the nature of that balancing-of-power-work in the context of producing education research. Methods included a youth-led focus group and collective reflective praxis-oriented discussions. Analysis of findings reveal three main themes that emerged from our examination of the question what makes a healthy intergenerational partnership: purposeful shifting of power; vulnerable, flexible communication; and ongoing adaptation to people, process and place.
