Abstract

This study draws from Critical Race Feminista theoretical and methodological approaches to examine how Faculty of Color in a College of Education at a four-year university experience racial microaggressions and racial microaffirmations. Data includes three group pláticas with tenure-track and full-time lecturer Black, Latinx, and Asian American faculty. At the time of the study, the College was engaged in efforts to increase diversity and equity across its policies and practices. The study found similar racial microaggressions targeted Faculty of Color across generations, driven by historical accounts of institutional racism. In response, Faculty of Color engaged in intergenerational racial microaffirmations rooted in validation, healing, and reciprocity. The study provides scholarly, and practice-based recommendations for institutions committed to racial justice.
