Sun, April 27, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

Black women in the United States face disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity. While statistics highlight these disparities, there is a critical need to understand the lived experiences of Black mothers within the healthcare system. This study employs narrative research methods to explore Black women's stories of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. The researchers utilize the study outcomes to expound on a multifaceted educational approach to address both immediate care needs and the broader systemic issues contributing to disparities in Black maternal health. This educational approach aims to address both immediate care needs and the broader systemic issues contributing to disparities in Black maternal health. Research outcomes were also employed to develop an education curriculum for healthcare professionals.
