Hybrid, Online, or In-Person Teaching: Evaluating Teacher Satisfaction During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Thu, April 24, 3:35 to 5:05pm MDT (3:35 to 5:05pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 4

Abstract

This study examines the impact of different instructional modalities (in-person, online, and hybrid) on teacher job satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic using data from the 2020 National Teacher and Principal Survey. Employing regression analyses, we investigate how satisfaction levels vary across modalities and explore the influence of teacher and school demographics. Preliminary findings indicate that teachers were less satisfied with hybrid modalities compared to in-person and fully distance learning. In-person teaching was consistently associated with higher levels of satisfaction. The study aims to fill a gap in understanding how pandemic-induced changes in instruction affected teacher satisfaction on a national scale. Results can inform future implementation of non-traditional instructional modalities and help identify contexts that may require additional support.
