Co-Designing the GenAI-Based Writing Tutoring Platform (GWTP) With K-12 Teachers

Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 304

Abstract

The integration of AI in STEM education is increasingly used to personalize learning and engage students, though its application in writing instruction remains underexplored. The GenAI-based Writing Tutoring Platform (GWTP) offers personalized writing support for K-12 students, providing real-time feedback, writing prompts, and assistance with grammar and syntax. Developed in collaboration with teachers, GWTP aims to improve student engagement and writing skills by aligning AI-driven tools with classroom needs. This study examined a co-design workshop with six K-12 teachers, gathering their feedback to refine the platform for instructional requirements and ensure seamless integration into classroom practices. This study highlights the transformative potential of AI in writing instruction and emphasizes the critical role of teacher collaboration in advancing AI-based platforms.
