Abstract

Community colleges create access points to education for marginalized students, however, the number of students transferring from community colleges to four-year institutions remains low. Part of the reason for that is the transfer process itself which is often described as overly complex, not transparent, and highly variable depending on the transfer receiving institution. A potential solution to this problem is leveraging technological innovations to streamline transfer processes and reduce informational barriers. This study examines faculty and staff perceptions regarding a cloud platform (Program Pathway Mapper) that aims to help community college students navigate their academic journey and clarify the transfer process by providing a mobile-adaptive, term-by-term map of courses required to complete an academic program of their choice.
