Abstract

Using the mixed-media methods of Black-Out Poetry and El Duende One-Canvas Art Making, the author employs a self-study methodology to critically reflect on the narratives, both personal and external, from their first year as a tenure-track professor. This personal inquiry and art-making process exemplifies a creative approach to critical reflection, inviting readers to consider incorporating similar methods into their own reflective practices. By engaging in the arts, the author highlights a means to address and remedy the emotional and cultural wounds often overlooked in academic institutions, ultimately fostering a more equitable and empathetic community.
