Abstract

This study examines how international educators of one International Student and Scholar Service (ISSS) office at a predominantly white institution (PWI) make meaning and advocate DEI and racial justice for international students within a racialized institutional structure. By conducting a critical qualitative study and drawing upon interview data, this research explores the DEI agency, efforts, and practices of this ISSS office and highlights the racial inequity issues against international students that emerged from institutional processes and practices. Further, this study also contributes a new conceptual framework to inform future policy and practices as it demonstrates how to infuse an international lens in campuswide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts for international students, especially amid the anti-DEI legislative attacks.
