Abstract

This research explores the impact of translingual and transcultural literacy on interview dynamics in qualitative studies, particularly focusing on graduate students from diverse linguistic and dialectal backgrounds. The study examines how the diversity of languages, semiotic resources, translanguaging, and translinguistic practices affect the creation and interpretation of narratives during interviews. Systems thinking demonstrates the interconnectedness of language, culture, identity, and environment, while embodied narrative 'voice' plays a key role in data analysis. The results underscore the need for interview practices that are inclusive and appreciate linguistic diversity, aiming to challenge power imbalances often perpetuated by conventional language ideologies and knowledge hierarchies. This study contributes to ongoing discussions about linguistic justice and advocates for more equitable research methods in higher education.
