Exploring Black Men’s College Mental Health: A Qualitative Study (Poster 3)

Fri, April 25, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to address one of the most pressing and salient educational issues – college mental health, particularly among Black men in the U.S. Having an in-depth understanding of what college students face now and the support they receive will have an impact on their abilities to live full lives as adults and be productive citizens. This presentation fills a void in scholarship on this critical topic, and it is informed by the Black College Men Mental Health Research Study (BCMMHRS), which examines the journey to and through college for thirty Black men as they navigate their mental health needs. This proposed research aligns directly with the AERA theme Research, Remedy, and Repair: Toward Just Educational Renewal.
