Abstract

Institutions of higher education (IHEs) were historically created for only the most privileged in society (Dolmage, 2017). This has begun to shift, increasing the inclusion of students with marginalized identities through aspects like inclusive postsecondary education programs (IPSE), multicultural affairs offices, and neurodiversity initiatives. IHEs often use mission, vision, values, and diversity (MVVD) statements to declare essential qualities of their work and purpose to the public. For a few reasons, New York State is at the forefront of inclusion in postsecondary education (Think College, 2024). This research project will examine the MVVD statements from all IHE in New York State, determining trends in messaging and action taken by IHE to create safe and inclusive spaces for diverse groups of students.
