Abstract

This systematic review explores conceptualizations of racial equity and systemic racism in research on Black undergraduate students' experiences in STEM fields. The study utilizes Critical Race Theory to examine how educational researchers define and operationalize systemic racism and racial equity. Findings demonstrate significance in obtaining equitable outcomes via counter spaces and explicit definitions of racial equity. Outcomes emphasizes the need for critical perspectives in addressing racism's impact on Black STEM students, calling for a more comprehensive approach to promote equity in STEM Education. This research strives to answer this call by uplifting Black voices and inserting them within a discourse of reform and reparative narratives in STEM education “research.”
