Healing-Centered Witnessing: Re-presenting the Collective Testimonies of Teacher Activists of Color

Thu, April 24, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 2E

Abstract

Although teacher activists of Color offer powerful insights and possibilities for combating racial violence in education systems (Author, 2018; Author, 2021), they are also not exempt from experiencing and enacting practices that can inflict racial harm compounded by multiple matrices of power (Buenavista et.al., 2021; Collins, 2000; Crenshaw, 1991). Guided by political and ethical commitments to conduct desire-based, life-affirming research (Mustaffa, 2021; Tuck, 2009), our paper focuses on how healing-centered witnessing practices can remedy and repair damage-centered, one-dimensional testimonies of teacher of Color activism.
