Sat, April 26, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

Young people are brilliant beings with knowledge, histories, and dreams that educators must learn to value, affirm, and sustain. Educators and educational stakeholders have much to learn from youth-led organizations that center young people's voices, identities, goals, and epistemologies. In this paper, I describe and explain how one young person reflects on her identities and experiences as a STEM facilitator, mentor, learner, and teacher while working at a youth-led organization. This case study examines how the young person understood herself, her responsibilities, and her duties at The Young People’s Project and how collective responsibility in the organization contributed to her experience.
