Abstract

Since ChatGPT's emergence, its impact on language learning has garnered significant academic interest because of its advanced language generation capabilities. Several studies investigated the use of ChatGPT in the context of language learning using MMR as their methodology. This systematic literature review examined the application of mixed methods research (MMR) in studies that explored the use of ChatGPT for English language learning. It synthesized how MMR has been implemented in these studies focusing on the MMR rationale, design, and integration. The review found that the studies used various types of MMR rationales to combine quantitative and qualitative methods. It also found wrong identifications of MMR designs by the studies and a lack of variations in terms of design and integration.
