Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 105

Abstract

Māori leaders in the claims under the Treaty of Waitangi argue that addressing historical grievances and fostering more equitable futures for Māori communities is integral. They work diligently to ensure that the rights of their people are recognized and upheld, that their cultural heritage is preserved, and that socio-economic development is facilitated. The primary focus of the study is examining community-based leadership in the context of the Treaty of Waitangi negotiations. The unique experiences the participants brought to and took away from their negotiations with the Crown were of specific interest. This is a comprehensive study of community-based leadership in the Treaty of Waitangi negotiations, which explored the complex interplay between history, culture, politics, and community dynamics.
