In this essay, the researchers explain how they employed a critical race convergent parallel mixed-method research design to construct a novel research instrument that was designed to assess racial equity. The research team developed an initial survey and conducted cognitive interviews to refine it, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate assessment. This critical race mixed methods study utilized Critical Race Theory (CRT) throughout all stages, embedding CRT principles in both the qualitative and quantitative components. This approach allowed us to create a robust, validated tool that captures educators' knowledge, beliefs, and mindsets toward racial equity, contributing valuable insights for advancing equity in education.
