Abstract

This study seeks to extend the practice of clinical simulations in teacher education toward Critical Practice Teacher Education CPTE. Clinical simulations are one-to-one interactions between a teacher candidate (TC) and a paid, live actor that provide realistic, dynamic experiences for TCs. The facilitated debriefs associated with the simulation cycle allow for TCs to discuss and reflect on their professional practice. Using self-study methods and critical reflexivity, the authors examine their facilitation of two clinical simulation debriefs with TCs to identify areas for improvement for enhancing learning outcomes. Key findings in this study include specific revisions to the simulation process to support TC as they practice professional learning and make explicit connections between social theories and professional practice.
