Abstract

This paper details a design-based research study on a video reflection protocol in a teacher residency program, developed collaboratively with teacher residents. The protocol fosters reflective ownership, critical inquiry, and SEL competencies, enhancing teaching practices through video observations, guided self-reflections, and facilitative coaching. It promotes the development of reflective practitioners and incorporates video analysis into coursework, humanizing observation practices, and providing context-oriented coaching. Preliminary results demonstrate its effectiveness in reconstructing educational practices, embedding innovative, technology-enhanced reflective practices in teacher education, and emphasizing teaching with a social-emotional and cultural lens. This framework significantly contributes to educational repair and renewal, attending to adult SEL of teachers in both teacher education and K-12 settings.
