Constructing Educational Possibilities With Experiential Learning and Prior Learning Assessment

Thu, April 24, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 608

Abstract

This study identified factors affecting the average credit hour award among students enrolled in prior learning assessment (PLA) at a public Hispanic-Serving Institution. A multiple linear regression was run to assess the block credit PLA model and to predict credit hour awards. The results indicated that skill, knowledge, and cognitive ability were key predictors of average credit hour awards. The analysis revealed a high R² = 92.05% and adjusted R² = 91.90%, with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.20 (n=491). On average, students participating in the PLA program earn 12 college credit hours. This translates to a savings of approximately $5,000 dollars for those students. PLA saves both time and money for students on their educational journey.
