Thu, April 24, 3:35 to 5:05pm MDT (3:35 to 5:05pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Bluebird Ballroom Room 3A

Abstract

Ethnic studies education is now a part of the larger national curricular conversation and there is an increasing interest in evaluating the experiences of those involved in the educational process. This systematic literature review seeks to understand the impacts of student and educators experiences in Ethnic studies education. This review produced 11 articles which detailed the experiences and impacts of Mexican American studies (MAS) courses, finding that the courses offered a space for cultural reconciliation, were sources of learning and resistance, and offered statistical positive student outcomes. This study provided several key impacts of MAS and makes the case for school districts across the United States to expand their offerings of MAS and Ethnic studies more broadly.
