Sat, April 26, 1:30 to 3:00pm MDT (1:30 to 3:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 702

Abstract

This study was conducted during a summer social skills camp in partnership with a Southeastern University and community organizations serving youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Data was collected through a combination of observational methods, parent rating scales, and qualitative feedback, with analysis focusing on visual trend assessment and procedural integrity. The results found that with parent trainng, parents were better able to teach and encourage skill generalization at home and students showed social skill improvements at home and in sessions. This study contributes to the research on behavioral skills training with youth with ASD, and addresses the need for more inclusive interventions that involve parents/caretakers/guardians and the community to help promote social skills in multiple settings.
