Abstract

In this study, we investigated the epistemological origins of mentoring, and challenging the notion that mentoring originated with Homer’s Odyssey. We adopted the historical epistemology and constructivist theory as the theoretical framework. We employed document analysis to (a) investigate the notion of mentoring origins. We also employed qualitative case study to explore the mentoring practices in Ancient Egypt. The findings showed that mentoring existed in ancient Egypt long before Homer’s era. Text like Maxims of Ptahhotop and Kagmni provided structured mentoring process. This research redefined mentoring historical context, highlighting contributions of diverse cultures. By understanding these roots, contemporary mentoring practices can be enhanced, as well as supporting a more inclusive and just educational framework.
