Comparison of Logistic Regression and IRT Residuals in Differential Item Functioning of Dichotomous Items

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of LR and IRT residuals in identifying DIF in dichotomous items. The residual analysis also indicated that the IRT residuals model provides a slightly poorer prediction of DIF among different groups of participants. The significant predictors of LR and IRT methods identified were almost the same. This study's preliminary findings indicate no clear superiority between the two approaches to using LR and IRT residuals in DIF, with further analysis to be conducted.
