Abstract

Most children around the world attend some form of out-of-home care (OECD, 2021). As more parents who previously could not afford care now gain access through policies like the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC), the demand for early childhood education and care (ECEC) is likely to exceed the supply of available spaces. To understand parental emotional responses to CWELCC implementation, this study aims to examine parents' emotional sentiments regarding the policy, how the emotions differ based on demographic characteristics (i.e., province, location of residence, education, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, child disability, income, age, number of children, and age of the youngest child), and the relationship between these emotional sentiments and parental mental health (i.e., depression, anxiety, and stress).
