Abstract

The Phenomenological Variant of Ecological Systems Theory (PVEST) framework offers a holistic understanding of individual development within complex ecological systems. It has been applied to post-secondary educational research, examining experiences and challenges specific to marginalized students to shed light on their unique experiences and needs. Other studies in grades K-8 have used PVEST to explore African American males’ exposure to violence, racial socialization, and mathematically talented Black students. However, more research is needed on how language teachers across different communities and grade levels understand and utilize the PVEST framework in their practice. Investigating teachers’ perspectives and practices regarding PVEST is crucial for informed educational initiatives supporting positive youth development and just educational renewal for historically marginalized students.
