Abstract

This symposium brings together five papers that center critical research by educational scholars who engage theories and methodologies rooted in transnational and Global South epistemologies. Among others, the authors use healing methodologies such as curanderismo, critical autoethnographic vignettes, Photovoice, focusing on Black girls' joy, and healing from eugenicist traumas to offer a discussion of non-hegemonic ways of healing, learning, and knowing in educational settings and beyond. The papers emphasize creating spaces of care, love, joy, healing, and self-sovereignty to address traumatic educational experiences. The contributions to this panel highlight Global South scholars' voices in remedying educational harms, and aligns with Division G’s focus on the intersectionalities of race, language, spirituality, nationhood, and citizenship.
