Abstract

This study addressed a critical gap in understanding STEM faculty research motivation and success, focusing on perceived institutional support. Survey data was collected from 651 faculty across 10 U.S. doctoral universities. A new measure of perceived support, including research time allocation, funding opportunities, and collaboration, was reliable. Faculty reported moderate support levels, with mean scores of 2.81 for funding opportunities and 2.97 for research time. Significant correlations were found among perceived support, job satisfaction, intrinsic motivation, and research outcomes. These results suggest that improving funding opportunities and research time allocation can enhance faculty productivity and well-being.
