Abstract

This study explores doctoral students’ experiences and perceptions regarding the introduction of an Immigration and Education (I&E) course at a mid-sized public university in Southwest Florida. As U.S. classrooms become increasingly diverse, there is a pressing need for educational strategies that are inclusive and culturally responsive. Employing a qualitative case study approach grounded in the Global Citizenship Education framework, this research investigates the potential of I&E courses in preparing doctoral students to navigate and contribute to a culturally diverse educational environment. Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, three key themes emerged: broadening perspectives, enhancing professional practice, and advocating for curriculum integration. The findings suggest that I&E courses can play a crucial role in developing culturally competent educators and researchers.
