Taking Stock: Exploring Utah's Out-of-School Time Landscape to Identify Strengths and Opportunities

Fri, April 25, 9:50 to 11:20am MDT (9:50 to 11:20am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 4

Abstract

This study examines out-of-school time (OST) programming in Utah to identify existing services and examine their strengths and opportunities to meet student and family needs statewide. This mixed-method study collected data from surveys, focus groups, and interviews with OST staff, families, and program administrators across nine regions. The study found OST programs throughout Utah provide important services to address the changing needs of students and families. However, challenges such as limited OST program availability, program staff recruitment and retention, and resource constraints persist in many communities. The study highlights the opportunities for state leaders, OST funders, and community leaders to work collaboratively to address these challenges and gaps in services for students and families in partnership with day school.
