Intergenerational Civic Inquiry and Activism: Community-Based Research as Remedy for a More Hopeful Tomorrow (Poster 20)

Wed, April 23, 10:50am to 12:20pm MDT (10:50am to 12:20pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

Amid calls for political and educational change, this project brings together youth and university researchers in an effort to repair their communities. Through an out-of-school, intergenerational civic engagement research initiative, participants engage in biweekly collaborative inquiry, generating plans for socially-just research. By discussing their political contexts and addressing issues of race, justice, and access within their schools, 25 high school youth and graduate co-researchers tackle complex issues across their neighborhoods and envision future possibilities. Drawing on participatory action research (PAR) and centering oral and written activist accounts, presenters will share their community-based research projects and reflect on their collaboration across multiple generations. This presentation will capture how intergenerational research partnerships can foster youth voices, nurture reciprocal learning, and inform meaningful change.
