Sat, April 26, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 2-3

Abstract

This presentation explores school leadership theorizing and practice among school leaders in sub-Saharan Africa. Within the context of the continent of Africa, the lack of an African leadership perspective and borrowing of Western leadership frames within education and schooling continues to be a challenge (Moorosi & Bush, 2020). The research and presentation respond to this ongoing challenge and broaden the epistemological base of educational leadership. Utilizing qualitative research approach data were collected from sixty-five secondary and elementary school heads in Ghana, Kenya, and Zambia. Findings reveal a variety of leadership perspectives, need for ongoing leadership development, and importance leadership frameworks grounded in Ubuntu philosophy and decolonizing education
