Abstract

Teacher well-being is a critical factor in classroom success and time spent in nature could be a contributing factor. Using survey data from 207 teachers in Texas, this study examines how much time teachers spend outside in a typical week, then explores the relationship between time outside and teachers’ reported well-being. Teachers reported spending 39.12 minutes outside during a typical week (SD = 63.56). During non-school hours, teachers reported spending 128.71 minutes (SD = 184.99) outside during a typical week. A positive correlation was found between time spend outside during the school day and well-being, r(205) = .16, p = .02. No relationship was found between time spent outside after school/weekends and well-being, r(206) = .10, p = .14.
