The purpose of this research study was to examine youth resilience and challenges in achieving success, as defined by youth, in education, employment and mental wellbeing. Our study utilized a Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) methodology to explore the relationships between mental and physical health, and student academic achievement. Data was collected from 65 surveys of former foster children in care as well as interviews with 13 youth formerly in care, 19 social workers, and 10 foster parents. Preliminary analysis of the results indicated that youth face many systemic and structural challenges that affect their educational attainment and well-being.
