Abstract

This systematic review presents a framework for queering and transing care work in early education through high school settings. Guided by the PRISMA 2020 Statement, we focus on four research questions in the queer and trans studies educational scholarship: (1) How has educational “care” work been conceptualized? (2) Who is the target of and responsible for transformational care work? (3) How does transformational care work address the structural determinants of educational inequity? and (4) How do scholars interrogate the interlocking nature of racial, ethnic, gender, and sexual systems of oppression in care descriptions? Preliminary findings suggest that Q/T scholarship focuses on care work emphasizing empowerment, intimacy, play, and wonder in existing literature as “provocations to arouse the imagination”
