Migrant Motherhood in the Digital Age: Transnational Parenting, Literacy, and Bilingual Insights (Poster 15)

Sun, April 27, 8:00 to 9:30am MDT (8:00 to 9:30am MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Exhibit Hall Level, Exhibit Hall F - Poster Session

Abstract

We are exploring the out-of-school context and how in-person and digital spaces provide opportunities for two transnational bilingual parents. We also research how these parents juggle the knowledge and information that different cultural and linguistic backgrounds provide. In the process of pursuing parenting knowledge, these parents have been questioning whether they are still good parents and how they critically assess and select information that is suitable for their children. The research draws on theoretical frameworks of transnationalism and bilingualism, emphasizing the dynamic interplay between language, culture, and identity in parenting. It integrates concepts from digital literacy and critical media studies, recognizing the importance of digital spaces in contemporary knowledge acquisition.
