Expansion and Adaptation of a University Belonging Questionnaire Through the Generative Pretrained Transformer

Abstract

This research examines how the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) can be used to facilitate item creation and scale adaptation in applied psychometrics. Using the University Belonging Questionnaire (UBQ) as a case study, we employed GPT to generate new items and adapt the scale to the Chinese context. Responses from 319 Chinese college students were collected and analyzed. Results indicate that the newly adapted UBQ demonstrates sound psychometric properties, supporting the use of GPT in applied psychometrics.
