Wed, April 23, 2:30 to 4:00pm MDT (2:30 to 4:00pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 1

Abstract

This study examines perceptions of doctoral programs in education through a discourse analysis of 54 YouTube videos. Using MAXQDA, we identified key themes such as program value and ROI, career prospects, comparisons to other degrees, student experiences, challenges, financial considerations, and institutional characteristics. Our findings show that personal growth, mentorship, and support systems have a significant impact on students' experiences, while work-life balance and resilience pose significant challenges. The findings point out the value of comprehensive support systems and targeted career services in improving doctoral education. This study stresses the role of YouTube in shaping public perceptions and makes actionable recommendations for educational institutions to improve their programs and support services.
