Abstract

This study explores the relational dynamics and trajectories of knowledge brokers within a U.S. school district, focusing on their critical role in the dissemination of research evidence. Despite the recognized value of research evidence for educational improvement, its use in schools and districts often remains low. The present study draws on social capital theory and social network analysis to investigate how knowledge brokers—educational leaders who disseminate research ideas at a higher level— develop and evolve within their networks over time. Key findings suggest that knowledge brokers are highly connected within various networks, are dynamic in nature, and follow distinct trajectories. The study emphasizes the importance of supporting leaders in developing skills for effective knowledge brokering, crucial for enhancing educational improvement.
