Abstract

The rapid advancement of AI technology necessitates educating the next generation about AI knowledge, skills, and ethics. Current studies, however, lack consensus on promoting and evaluating AI literacy in K-12 education. This systematic review analyzes literature from 2014 to 2023, identifying 13 topics to cultivate the five core AI competencies. These competencies include (i) clearly explain how AI technologies work and (ii) the impact they make on society, as well as to (iii) use them in an ethical and responsible manner and to (iv) effectively communicate and collaborate with them in any setting. They should have ability to (v) self-reflect their AI understanding for further learning.
