Abstract

This paper explores the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in art education, analyzing the concept of AI as either an augmentation or disruption in the field. The authors conducted 15 workshops with 17 contemporary artists who utilize AI in their practice, engaging with K-16 art educators and students. The study reveals the need for open discussions about the benefits and drawbacks of AI use in art education, emphasizing the importance of ethical considerations and responsible use. The paper highlights three pedagogical takeaways: the need for open discussions, searching for best practices employing an ethical stance, and promoting connections and collaborations towards inclusive art education. These insights can guide art educators in incorporating AI into their teaching practices.
