Transnational Journeys: Exploring the Gendered Dimensions of Teacher Migration

Wed, April 23, 12:40 to 2:10pm MDT (12:40 to 2:10pm MDT), The Colorado Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Four Seasons Ballroom 4

Abstract

This paper addresses the significant yet under-researched issue of transnational teacher migration, focusing on the gender dimensions, particularly the experiences of female migrant teachers. The migration of female teachers presents a duality: while they are perceived as cost-effective labor solutions and challenge traditional gender roles by seeking economic opportunities, they also navigate and reinforce these roles within their new environments. This paper explores what migration means for female teachers, both for their professional and personal identities, contributing to the broader discourse on gender, migration, and education.
