Youth with or at-risk for emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) in restrictive education settings experience considerable challenges with the writing process leading to low levels of self-determination. This is particularly true for English learners (ELs) who are developing proficiency in the English language. This article provides strategies for embedding culturally responsive practices into SRSD with self-determination to better support the needs of this population. Special considerations and adaptations for restrictive education settings are discussed.
